Keyword research is the most fundamental marketing activity to any successful online business. What a strong statement. But, it's true.

For those of you who are new or have just started your online business without much thought into keyword research may not understand the significance and value of each keyword. Then, what happened? You realized you were not the person this audience was waiting for. They were actually waiting for someone who was going to speak about a totally different topic. They didn't even know what you were talking about. Therefore, this wasn't YOUR targeted audience. You were in the wrong market.

You had everything prepared all perfectly planned and executed to lead your listeners right to the obvious solution which happened to be your product. But you were talking to the wrong group of people.

How does this relate to keyword research?

The traffic you are driving to your site is directly related to what keywords your site is known for. If you are telling the search engines that your site is known for “niche widget solution” or using other keywords such as your name, the name of your business, that's not the content your market is searching for.

The keyword research you need to do is to determine what keywords or phrases people are searching for that have the solution to their problems. They are searching for “how to trade forex” or “trade forex with candle sticks” not “Super Winning Strategies.” They have no ideas what your "Super Winning Strategies is all about!

And, unless you do correct and thorough keyword research, nobody will know your site. Then, how do you do the right kind of keyword research? Imagine you are one searching for the solution. If you were someone out there with the problem your product solves, what would you be searching for? “How to play violin like a pro”, “Popular hangouts in down town New York”, “Melbourne modern art” and “Ping golf clubs”.

These are the keywords your prospective buyers are searching for. You just need to have the right keywords or phrases to attract them before they go surfing by.

Therefore, spend some time to become your own customer searching for a solution. You'd be surprised at how easy it is to do keyword research if you have the right tools!
